You were convicted of criminal charges of criminality and then left and are now hoping to return and then go and get the paperwork to renew your currently valid status of residence? In which case you might slip through.
If you’re posting in the wrong place and are outside Japan applying for a COE so you can continue your currently expired student visa I’d say your chances are a lot lower.
