Selling something without a Japanese Bank Account?

Hello! I am in Japan on a student visa and will be here for the next 3 months. I recently bought a wallet that I no longer need, and I’d like to sell it to make some of the money back since the store doesn’t accept returns. Is there any way for me to sell here without a Japanese bank account? Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

  1. If it’s an authentic brand wallet maybe you can sell it at some 買取 store or 2nd hand store like Street or Bookoff etc… but be prepare that they might not offer the price you want.

Selling it on Mericari would be the best option but they require phone number and bank account

  2. Use one of the many facebook groups for buying and selling in Japan.

Only accept cash/face to face transactions as there are a ton of scammers/thieves on the groups.

Expect to be overwhelmed by people trying to offer you way less than youre listing it for. Hey it’s the internet.

  3. I believe if you sell on Mercari, if you don’t have a bank account you can get your proceeds paid out to be used in their “Merpay” app account, which while it isn’t exactly cash, can still be used to pay in places like convenience stores and a few dozen chains of restaurants and shops. Haven’t done it myself so double-check.
