Both my partner and I love long showers, and our gas bill is getting… expensive. By my back-of-the-envelope calculation, a heat pump hot water heater would essentially cut my costs in half.
At the same time, I know it’s not going to be a trivial install cost, and it’s going to take up more space in my home. Anyone done this? Was it worth it? Any company recommendations (Tokyo)?

Yeah I have a Daikin 470L one. Works just fine, We’ve never run out of hot water (3 people family) and I’ve set it up to keep the least amount of water.
With ecocute, you’ll also qualify “all-denki house” electricity plans so I’m heating my water at 17.82jpy/kWh. And the dishwasher, drum type washing machine, electric car… 😉
The tank will also act as an emergency water storage, and a rather large one too.
I had it installed inside of my house, to help heating in wintertime. Normally they’re installed outside.
Owning an エコã‚ュート is a great idea if:
1) You have been using LP gas
2) You own solar panels and turn your heat pump during the day so it runs on your self generated electricity
Otherwise, the ROI will not be so attractive since electricity costs are very high now.
