Need more things to do and advice! 4/21-5/4 Honeymoon (better post). TKO-OSAKA-KYOTO-OSAKA-HAKONE

Hey all, re-did the post after looking at some others on this sub. On some days we may have too much, on some days we have too little. Ideally we have too much on here (feel free to add suggestions) and just play by ear what we get too. I’m aware that some of the things in Tokyo (time in beginning and time there at the end) need to be re-arranged as some are closer together than others.

I also don’t know what I don’t know so thanks in advance I hope it’s all laid out well. We are also in pretty good shape so 5-8 miles a day should be okay. Lots of questions about Hakone, so feel free to check that for help.

  1. I can answer the Hakone bits since I was there not that long ago.

Basically with the Hakone Freepass you use the pass itself as your ticket. You show it to the attendants at the various transportations (ie, to get on the pirate ship you go to the pirate ship entry area and line up for those with tickets, show your pass, and get on) and that’s that. Occasionally they will stamp the pass although I never did figure out exactly why on that one since you can still use the modes of transportation unlimited times.

For example, we had the pass stamped each day when we first used it on the ropeway and then after, as we used the ropeway some more, it wasn’t stamped again. There were no issues with it.

For buses: same thing, get on the bus, show the pass, and you are good to go assuming you get on the correct bus. 🙂

For the Hakone Tozan Train – same thing. Show the pass and off you go.

If you have an electronic version of the pass (I think that’s a thing) then I’m guessing that you just have to show the eletronic code / qr / ticket whatever it is.

Basically, once you get to Hakone-Yumoto you use the freepass for basically everything. Note: there are some bus companies that are not covered by the pass so just double check if you’re going to take a bus.
