Earthquake alert app

Any recommendations for a simple and free app for earthquake alerts in Japan, that’s available in app store? I live in Fukushima and would want to just simply know the magnitude & the epicenter. TIA!

  1. I like the NERV app, as well. Actually, the Japanese scale is extremely useful. This is what you see on the tv news after a quake. Like knowing the heat index or wind chill factor is more meaningful than simply the temperature.

  2. I also recommend NERV. I’ve found their app to be the most consistent in giving me a heads up, even if it’s just a couple seconds, that an earthquake is about to happen.

They also have Twitter accounts and a specific one that tweets the same thing in English.

  3. My wife swears with Twitter for this. It seems to get the fastest and most accurate updates.

  4. I personally use the Hinansho Guide app – it tells you where the disaster muster points & shelters are but also then gives alerts for disasters. I’m sure there are other better ones though. But most are going to list the seismic intensity (shindo) not the magnitude, so just be aware that they’re different numbers.

  5. Strong Motion app is what some of my coworkers and I use. Haven’t compared it to any other app. I’ll have to check NERV out.
