If you’re queer, How did you meet your partner(s) in japan?

I literally havent met any gay women irl because I”m an hour away from tokyo (all the gay bars are there) and I havent found anyone I like in dating apps?

Like is it this hard to find a match on dating apps? Cuz back home I get like 10-20 matches a day, here I only get like 2 matches a day and sometimes they don’t even reply back. I swear I’m not ugly, so I’m wondering why am I not getting any matches lol

How did you meet your partner/ex partner in japan as a queer person???

  1. While I’m not currently dating anyone, I’ve met people on bumble. For gay women my friend recommended an app called ‘Her’. I’ve never used it because I’m neither gay nor a woman (I’m pan) but my friend thinks it’s great. Also, there’s LGBTQ meetups on the ‘meetup’ app.

  2. I met my ex at a sauna, but he turned out to be married, so I don’t think I can reccomend it.

  3. I met my gf through Bumble and we both had to travel an hour by train to meet. Before that, I had gone to LGBT parties (found through Facebook gatherings) and just a couple of dates.

  4. I met my boyfriend in grinder (we are both in Tokyo). Very happily together for 2 years already 💕

  5. Are you in somewhere populous like Yokohama, or are you in the middle of the inaka? Because those are going to be very different experiences.

That said, my partner is an hour away, but we met at an event in Tokyo, so if you travel in to the city, you could certainly meet that way.

  6. My husband found my social media page when I was living in SoCal and sent me a message. That started an online romance that lasted for a couple of months before he invited me to fly to Tokyo at his expense so that we could meet in person. From there he took me on a whirlwind tour of Japan. We were both smitten. We’ve been together ever since and eventually got legally married in the US.

  7. No luck for me 🥲
I live in Tokyo and have all the apps and have made a lot of friends, but nothing romantic.

  8. Straight guy here. Damn you’re getting 2 matches a day!? You’re doing great! Assuming those matches are real people.

  9. Fortunately in the years before the Internet, we used to have huge lesbian gatherings in Saitama three or four times a year. It would be during the holidays so three or four days in length, and between 100 and 200 women gathered together at it’s peak. It was awesome.

It was at a government women’s center and besides having rooms, they also had softball fields (how lesbian is that), large cooking facilities, and conference rooms, theater etc. that we could reserve for various events.

Unfortunately with the rise of the Internet, these gatherings slowly dwindled in size and people just gathered in their various city communities.

You are an hour away from Tokyo, but if you really want to meet people you just gotta bite the bullet and come here on the weekends.

  10. Met my wife through OkC back in the day but never met. Randomly we met in person on accident at a party in Shinjuku, hit it off, been married a while now.
