Tokyo- Hakone- Takayama-Kyoto-Osaka in 11 days

Hi all,

Created an itinerary but am aware that the timeline is super tight. Could someone give advice on what to prioritise/how I should make changes to the plan?

Will be reaching 2 Nov early morning – departing 12 Nov afternoon this year (autumn). Does anyone have any first-hand experience in Takayama? Looks super quaint and beautiful but reality might be diff- travelling there is not the easiest also. Any suggestions on good food/places are welcome too! Thanks!

  1. Hi!

I am 99.9% sure there is no direct train from Shinjuku to Takayama. There is a bus, but you’re looking at a more like 5.5 hours for just for the bus not including transport from Hakone.

Presumably the fastest way from Hakone is taking the shinkansen from Odawara to Nagoya and changing there for Hida. The train from Odawara comes approximate once every 2 hours. You could technically go from Odawara to Shin-Yokohama to Nagoya, the latter via nozomi, but it will cost quite a bit.

You can do a lot more in 1 day in Kyoto than Gion if you want.

And I’m not going to repeat the problem with Hitachi as a day trip from Osaka.

  2. Hitachi Seaside park is located in Ibaraki(茨城) prefecture, not Ibaraki(茨木) city in Osaka.

You can visit the park while your stay in Tokyo. It takes about 2 – 3 hours from somewhere in Tokyo to the park.
