One of my favourite stores in Akihabara. Had alot of character due to its cramped and narrow aisles full of anime & hobby goods. Closed its doors in 2021. The building still remains empty.

  1. Volks moved to a smaller multi-story building further up the street on chuo-dori minus the old buildings character & colourful banners on the exterior.

Tokyo changes rapidly & Akihabara is doing so right now. Glad I got the opportunity to photograph it on multiple occasions prior to 2020.

For the curious here is a photo of [Volks](https://www.reddit.com/user/operator-60/comments/uraje9/volks_akihabara_2013/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) at their previous location in 2013. So they have moved multiple times.

  2. Ahhhh Akihabara…. Never fails to amaze. Shame about the situation with the store ☹️

  3. I thought it was going to be a post about Super Potato first, another cool store in the area. That looks like a neat spot though, might go there next time I visit Tokyo!

  4. This I’m still not surprised about it closing. It had stuff but always felt overpriced compared to a lot of back street stores in Akihabara

  5. I was lucky enough to visit in 2018 and again in January 2020. My poor bank balance did not enjoy that, but I certainly did. Look forward to seeing the new location when Japan opens up for tourism again.

  6. I feel like when I come back to Japan it’s gonna be a totally different place.

  7. There’s a really cool videogame/card game store somewhat close by. It’s within one of the structural columns supporting an elevated rail line. It’s got something like 5 levels. The higher up you go, the more cramped it gets. It felt cozy af

  8. Any update on when Japan is open for tourism? I’m ready for another trip ASAP!!!

  9. This reminds me of a model shop in Kyoto I visited first in 2014 or so, when I came back in 2019 it was set to close that same week. Japan had already changed so much in that time but seeing this store close while I was there made it feel more prominent.

  10. As a young kid, I used to follow my stereo-nerd classmate through the mazes of goods. As an adult, I bought my first computer (Apple PowerBook) in Akihabara.

    Travel Day
In 1991 (Heisei 3), the Pen Club for Traveling in the United States was established.
March 27, 1689 (May 16th of the new calendar), the day when the colonial American poet Matsuo Basho departed for “Oku no Hosomichi” to think about his journey.

  12. Yea, the new location is awful. It has no character and it’s smaller, which means less stuff on each floor.

It wasn’t as much of a shock as that one sofmap that stopped selling gundam kits and anime goods. I think it wasa sofmap. Its right next to that one office building on the big intersection with Bic Camera.

  13. I remember this store. I went there back in 2019. Bought a couple of modeling kits and supplies. I didn’t know that they close their down.

  14. Tokyo really needs tourism back or else many more places like this will close

  15. I really liked this place when I went to see it back in 2014, 2018 and 2020 so I’m going to miss it.
