Why do people come on Reddit and bad-mouth their future employers with information which clearly identifies who they are?
Take a recent example. There are many more. ‘I’m due to fly out with Nova on August 29th with my girlfriend’. I know they are shitty company, but we will bail ASAP and get something better’
Do these people not realize that HR guys have access to Reddit? Also, a lot of these companies have waiting lists for people wanting to come to Japan, I wouldn’t be surprised if those on the waiting lists anonymously tip off HR guys for their own self-serving purposes.

Let karma do it’s thing. No point getting all worked up over a bunch of idiots.
Considering they send people here by the dozen from several different countries pretty much daily, I’m pretty sure Nova has more than just one person due to fly out on/around the end of Aug with a gf, and I’m pretty sure Nova reps have better things to do than scroll though Reddit daily looking for posts from future employees just so that they can match up the info, track that person down, and FIRE THEM, MUHAHAHA.
I’m also pretty sure that other Nova recruits have far, far FAR more pressing matters to attend to than trolling Reddit to find posts disparaging Nova, track the person down, and squeal on them, all to get rid of the competition, MUHAHAHA.
A leaving date, which this person said has not even been set yet, doesn’t clearly identify this person, and this person was smart to ask questions before committing to taking a job from a company that has a truly awful reputation.
As an aside, the very idea that Nova has a waiting list of people who would go so far as to squeal on each other for disparaging Nova so as to beat out the competition is really doing my head in. I would hope that no one, NO ONE, is that desperate.
You answered your own concerns, they have an HR. If their employers are interested enough in looking into their candidates further they’ll scour Reddit. However I don’t know how useful that will be to any employer, it’s changing but usually Reddit stays pretty anonymous. If someone is boneheaded enough to post on their main and not an alt, or a throwaway that’s on them if their future employer finds out.
It’s funny you think Nova cares.
Wasn’t this posted a week ago? Get a life
IMO it’s just a fact of life that some people are of lower class / moral fibre than others. Also, a lot of people love to read shit online, pre-judge situations and then act as if they’re cynical veterans before they’ve even landed.
I feel part of this is that eikaiwas aren’t very selective, so they end up taking on people who others probably wouldn’t have. IMO it’s unfortunate because I actually enjoyed my time at Nova. I left for a better opportunity quite quickly (partly because I’m a qualified teacher so had a few more options), but didn’t need to be a dirtbag about it, ay.
Hey OP, are you working for NOVA HR?
Everyone knows Nova is shit, including (especially) every current employee at Nova, so they’re obviously not going to fire everyone. Also Nova’s HR ‘department’ for foreigners is like 2 people, so I’m sure they have too much work to do to scroll Reddit.
Companies like nova have neither the interest, competency, or time to travel these subreddits for excuses to fire people.
I doubt they would care either way, the only people who’s opinion of the company matters are their Japanese clients, who don’t even know what reddit is. I’m sure they are well aware that their employees hate the place anyway, they probably do too.
OP really needs to relax

It would be sad if they’d anonymized that a little and nova reacted by canceling someone else…
Reddit isnt very popular in Japan
Like the company doesn’t have a keyword search running 24/7 and then staff who do egosearch on the regular?!
Dumbass said the 29th and GF, enough data for the company to know exactly who it is.
What gets me is that these people have no idea of INFOSEC when entering a new job.
Yeah um I guarantee NOVA doesn’t give a shit. He’s a warm body and a native English speaker who is still willing to work for NOVA despite all their bullshit.
I doubt any Nova HR guys are really reading this forum.
They’ve gone thru the hassle of getting them the visa and organizing which school they’ll work at. Really doubt they’d fire him for something that nearly every Nova teacher says in front of other Nova staff nearly daily.
Many HR people in the teaching industry in Japan are on Reddit – particularly foreign HR. Sometimes they may be interested in trying to figure out if they know who the poster is.
Also, if your identity on Reddit is discovered by your employer and they see that you bad-mouthed them, they certainly can try to punish you.
Just be smart and practice basic operational security.
