what happens if the supervisor (for postgraduate) has left the university you applied to

hello, i had applied to a university for postgraduate degree and entrance was delayed 2 semesters, and now it is on october so i sent email to the person responsible for application to ask about the coe application which is supposed to be this month and he said that my supervisor has left the university (the supervisor didnt inform me) but he also said that he will apply for coe this month or the next and i am confused

this is the email (i removed the names for privacy):

“Dear (hidden)san

I will apply for the CoE in this month or next month.

Your entrance is October 2022.

By the way, do you know (hidden)san has left the university?

Best regards,

(hidden)”

the person who does the applications takes too long to reply to emails and until then because of anxiety i wonder if anyone else here knows anything about this situation and what happens in the case where supervisor does not work there anymore

  1. I think more information is needed. Are you a MEXT scholarship student? A privately funded student?

  2. Does the lab/department have another professor/assistant professor in the field that can take over the supervisor role?

The first step is probably to tell the person you’re in contact with that you wasn’t aware. And then perhaps reach out to the department to find a solution.
