Is there a reverse JET?

I was talking to my JTE about how JET works and he got curious if there was a similar program for teachers/others to go to the US and do the same. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  1. JICA sends Japanese people to developing countries, I think mostly as teachers. That’s all I’m aware of.

  2. I don’t know if there’s a program or if it’s the BOE but two of my teachers have taught Japanese in my home state for about a 3 months stretch but that’s the closest I’ve heard of something.

  3. The Japan-America Society sometimes swaps workers. I know the Chiba one and Houston one did before COVID.

  4. I’ve known some Japanese teachers who have gone to Australia and taught Japanese. I don’t know exactly how that’s worked though

  5. There’s the JOI Program (Japan Outreach Initiative). It’s on a much smaller scale, but sends Japanese citizens to the US to teach about Japanese culture.

  6. Yes, via JICA or the Japan Foundation. Usually they get sent to developing countries though, not the US or anywhere that already has decent Japanese education.
