I am currently working in Toyama. Our company allowed me to take a vacation leave during Obon. I am planning on going on a trip to Tokyo or Osaka. I just have a few questions.
1. Would 150-200k yen enough for a 5 day trip?
2. Any places would you recommend to see or do?
Thanks

You can probably do 5 day with 50k yen to Osaka if you go cheap, so I imagine 150k to be plenty.
Also you might want this pass : https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_takayama_hokuriku.html since the cost of the pass is already cheaper than return ticket Toyama-Osaka.
The answer highly depends on yourself and your lifestyle. If you take a nightbus and stay in dorms you can do with much less. All depends on what level of comfort you want and what activities you want to do.
Edit: personally I wouldn’t visit any cities in august. Way too hot. Go north. Went to Sendai last august and the year before Niigata. Weather was bearable there.
1. Enough if you are well planned for the trip
2. Visit Kyoto when you are in Osaka( there’s a subway network between Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe) really easy and reasonable price to move between these cities.
If you get a bus or train to Matsumoto, Nagano, or Joetsu-Myoko, you can buy and use the [JR East pass](https://www.jreast.co.jp/multi/en/pass/eastpass_n.html) from there, 18,000 yen for 5 days to get to, from, and anywhere around Toyko.
Tokyo will be hot and crowded but there are huge numbers of museums and places to go shopping, or go to Disneyland if that’s your thing. You can also go to or take day trips from Tokyo to cute towns like Karuizawa or Nikko, but be prepared for crowds even worse than Disneyland at such places.
There’s still a daily flight to Sapporo, that’s what I’d aim for in August, tbh. Flight and decent hotel would be about 90k.
