Pressing F7 would convert what you typed to katakana
I usually press Fn + Capslock to switch to katakana mode
I use Google IME and I hold down shift to type katakana, same as if I want to type in all caps in English. I can’t remember if there’s a setting I had to change to enable that, but try it out yourself and see …
