Logistics of moving from mainland to Okinawa

Looking at our first real move in Japan (at least a move with _stuff_), and it is to Okinawa. Does anyone who has done this kind of move have any tips on logistics, or recommendations on a moving company to ship our stuff?

We’d like to go ahead and get started on packing. Do companies here use standard sizes or specific types of boxes?

  1. The companies will provide you with boxes for packing before your move. If you pay a few hundred bucks extra they’ll come and pack them for you too.

  2. They have various sizes but generally don’t use big ones due to stairwells, doorframes, etc. sizes here. Usually, the biggest boxes are wardrobe types so you can take clothes on hangers and just put them in the box. And as the other poster said, the moving company will drop off the boxes and roles of tape well ahead of your move date. Sounds like common sense but don’t forget to separate all the basic toiletries, clothes, chargers, etc. and documents that you’re going to need for a few days. Helped friends pack one time and they just packed “everything” away. Kinda inconvenient.
