Inviting family on visit visa

We are expecting a baby on September and would like to invite my laws during that period or a month before delivery to be able to have some family care time.

I searched for visit visa but found out mixed results and have few questions.

I am holding engineer/humanities visa and my wife as dependent. Can I invite my laws with this visa? In older post , it is said that only PR or long term visa holder can invite their family on visit visa.

If I cant apply for family visit visa, what would be alternative to invite them?

The purpose for invitation is clear, as we would like to have our laws together during the times of delivery, spend some times and return back.
During this time, they will be staying with us caring and helping us emotionally .

  1. For most countries Japan allows visa-free entry for up to 3mo on your standard ‘tourist visa’.

That’s your only option really and 3mo should be ample time for delivery and spending time together. If you need longer you should probably determine if you both want to head back to your country since neither of you are nationals tied here via family etc.

Otherwise they need to qualify for their own work visa to stay longer than 3mo.

  2. You don’t apply for a visa for them. They apply by themselves.
They need to prove that they have sufficient money to visit you and support their travel expense, or you send them a letter testifying to be their sponsor during their travel so they don’t have to prove that they have money. It’s very clear what the embassy need if you just visit their website under the visa section , keyword to look for is sponsor/family relates visit

  3. The visa is “Visiting friends/relatives”. Basically they start the process on their end, but you can always do that for them. There are two ways for you to support the visa application, either you present yourself as inviter, or *also* as a guarantor. In the latter, you’d need to provide your tax documents, bank statements, etc.

Another thing is they’d get visa for upto 3 months, but while they are here, you can request immigration for extension, and they may extend it for a max of 3 months.

  4. You’ve left out the most critical piece of information which is the country they are from. As others have pointed out, if they’re from anywhere in Europe, Australia, North America then they can just enter Japan without prior application for a visa. If they’re from somewhere like India, Brazil or Vietnam then they need to apply for a visa.

  5. It depends on where they are from.

I don’t think you can invite them.
They need to apply by themselves in order to get a tourist/visitor visa.
