Getting the most out of italki class

Hi everyone. I’m curious about others’ experience with italki classes with professional teachers, especially those who are using italki as a sort of “side” class in addition to studying at school/with private tutor. Any tips on how to get the most out of the session would be most welcome!

I’ve never used italki before but have seen lots of recommendations for it as a way to supplement speaking/listening opportunities. I’m planning to give it a try soon because I’m very motivated to improve my Japanese. I’m still just a beginner though and would like to have a more structured session as opposed to a “free conversation/talk about anything” type thing.

Many thanks in advance!

  1. Discuss topics you find interesting. Discover new vocabulary that are to do with your hobbies.

Create conversations using any grammar point you find difficult.

  2. * be very clear about your goals and make sure your teacher understands them

    * likewise from your point of view, have a clear picture in your head of what you want to accomplish in the lesson

    * getting an accredited teacher may cost more but they will have some ways to build up your conversation skills from zero

    * feel free to share your other study methods with the teachers. They aren’t always up on the latest software but it might help them understand where you are coming from.
