My Japan Post address has not been changed for 4 months since I moved, and I’ve just noticed it today

So, in March I moved from Aoba-ku, Kanagawa to Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. Before moving I did go to the Japan Post (Yuucho) office and asked for an address change, filled a form and submitted.

Recently I was wondering why my friends already received the 2021 income declaration, but I haven’t got any piece of paper about that. Opening the Yuucho app, it turned out that my address is still the old one in Aoba-ku, not the new one I’m living.

Now I am pretty scared that I missed a bunch of mails and documents from Aoba Ward Office, including the income declaration paper. What should I do to check if I have missed any said papers?

  1. Isn’t yuucho for the bank? I don’t think that would be related to your mail forwarding. Though you may have missed statements sent by Japan Post Bank.

I’m not sure what you mean by income declaration, as I only ever got something like that from my workplace, never from the city.

Anyway, I’d just go back to your old city hall and explain. If you missed paperwork or bills, they may be able to reissue them on the spot, or else send new copies to your new address.

  2. First, can you clarify what form you submitted and where you submitted it? Are you talking about a change of address for Japan Post Bank (Yucho Ginko, ゆうちょ銀行) or are you talking about mail forwarding for Japan Post (so they forward any mail sent to your old address to your new address for a year)? Those are two different things.

This doesn’t sound like anything related to Japan Post Bank or Japan Post, if that was your main concern. What is a “2021 income declaration”? I don’t think you mean the 源泉徴収票 (income tax withholding slip), because that comes way, way earlier than July. Are you perhaps talking about a 住民税決定通知書 (not sure what the official English is, but something like “residence tax notification”)? If so, you usually receive that from your place of employment, so you should tell them about your address change if you haven’t already.

Did you file a moving-out notification (転出届) at the Aoba Ward Office, and a moving-in notification (転入届) at the Setagaya Ward Office? Any residence-related documents should now be coming from Setagaya-ku. If you haven’t submitted the moving-out and moving-in notifications, you should do so ASAP.

To be honest, there is a disconnect between the first, middle and last parts of your post, which makes it hard to answer. And it seems like you have multiple, unrelated problems you need to sort out. Take it one at a time 🙂
