Omimaiko Beach: Is being on the beach at night ok?

I have a 2 day trip in Omimaiko. Our plan was to have a barbecue on the beach and at night make smores and do fireworks, but I notice the hours are until 5pm. Is that just the office hours or how long you can be on the beach?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Base on the Omimako Beach official site (in Japanese; http://oumi-maiko.info/parking), while the official summer opening time is up to 5pm, it is extended to 8pm from July 20th to August 25th, due to popular demand. Hope that helps.

    Edited: typo.

  2. I have no idea what the official rules are, but I camped there years ago and had no issues (assuming you mean the one at lake biwa). This time of year, even with corona, I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw other tents dotted around the shore too.

There are often threads about camping in Japan and the general consensus is don’t be too loud or annoying, put your tent up late in the day, and pack it away early in the morning.

  3. You can be on the beach anytime you want.
If you xan do fireworks/bbq on that particular beach, I don’t know.

The opening hours are just the times when life guards etc is opened

  4. As others have said it’s probably 5pm when the shops close and stuff but they might close the car park at 5pm. It’s just a public park so you can be there at all hours of the day s’long as you have a way to get home…

  5. It says opening hours are extend to 20:00 but final entry is 17:00. You cannot enter if you arrive after 17:00. So arrive early. This extension will be until 25th August.
Barbecue is available paying 200 yen per person in the name of cleaning fee.
Fireworks are prohibited in all Omimaiko area except in the premise of an accommodation and supervised by the owner.
    Enjoy!
