Hey everyone,
I’ve booked a trip to Japan for my partner’s birthday in June!
The itinerary is below:
**Day 1 -** arrive Tokyo 5.30pm, train to Shinjuku and check into Hotel
**Day 2 -** Explore Tokyo (Shibuya Crossing / Tokyo Tower / Tsukij fish market / maybe an animal cafe / dinner reservation at Gonpachi)
**Day 3 -** Explore Tokyo (Harajuku / Golden Gai bar hopping / anything else)
**Day 4 -** Explore Tokyo OR do a Mount Fuji day trip
**Day 5 -** Check out of hotel and travel Tokyo > Osaka and arrive in the afternoon. Explore Osaka (Osaka Castle/Park, Dontobori )
**Day 6 -** Day trip and train to Kyoto (Monkey Forest, Kinkakuji temple, Gion district, red torii gates) I think this might be too full of a day?
**Day 7 -** Day trip to Nara
**Day 8 -** Universal Studios
**Day 9 -** Day trip to Hiroshima
**Day 10 -** Check out and train to from Osaka > back to Tokyo, check into Tokyo hotel and explore
**Day 11 -** fly home at 8pm at night, so just chill and explore anything we’ve missed.
Does this seem too full of an itinerary? We’re both young and capable of doing full days, but not sure if this is achievable.. especially the day in Kyoto.
Also, does anyone know based on this itinerary if it’s worth getting a JR pass or just buying tickets whilst there?
Thank you!!

Day 6 in Kyoto looks do-able but busy. The things you’ve included are spread out across the city so the transit time in between will be relatively significant, especially if you’re not staying the night there. Depending on the time you arrive in the city you may need to make some choices 🙂 I would really recommend visiting the Gion district and the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine. If you prioritized these two, you may be able to add a walk through Nishiki market before things close (~7PM).
I’d say Day 6 is a bit much. Maybe stick with monkey park, tenruji, and kinkakuji if you’re sticking around that area and then gion at night for food. My partner and I recently went to Kyoto for a week but a day is barely enough to cover ground and yet we were tired haha.
