do any Nagoyans know of some lesser known spots where you can get get a filling meal for relatively cheap?
i’ll start with two i know:
・カレー幸 in by the Valentin Dome has a really nice retro vibe to it and delicious plates of curry rice for ¥350 (and the biggest size for ¥430!)
・ハロキ by Nagoya University’s campus also has a really big selection of delicious hamburg steak for around ¥800 with generous portions and all you can drink soup.

Mountain? It’s near Nanzan University. It’s a pretty awesome/hilarious place, though.
Miyamotomunash or Machikadoya
You can get any teishoku and all your can eat rice from 590yen
Any place that is targetted to a large company. Toyota, for example, has many places that they subsidize for employees to have cheaper lunches. I don’t live in Nagoya, but about 30 mins away (in a heavy Toyota-focused area) and many places ranging from cheap teishoku to nicer western places are like 1/3 the price of a proper restaurant. You don’t need to swipe in or show ID normally.

Cafeterias, etc. are often cheap, but you just gotta find ones that are open to public.
I haven’t eaten out in Nagoya in a while, but I think there are plenty of places that I would consider cheap, especially at lunch time. Miyamoto Munashi is a teishoku chain that mainly has places in Tokai and Kinki, and very reasonably priced. Osu also has plenty of reasonably priced places. It has some Vietnamese restaurants that sell Banh Mi and Pho for under 1000 yen. There’s also a Brazillian place that sells dishes for around 850 yen. When I worked in Nagoya a few years ago I would often buy two beef and cheese pastels for 700 yen and then eat them in a nearby park for dinner.
Shinjidai is a chain of Izakaya restaurants with impossibly cheap drinks (mega!) and some dirt cheap western options like pizzas
The Gusto chain also has some bargains. They overcharge for rice and soup but those items can be bought individually, so twice the calories for the same price as a set
