Nagoya University versus the University of Tsukuba

Hi!
I was recently accepted into both Nagoya University (G30 program, biological sciences) and the University of Tsukuba (Biological Science program).
In general, what are the major pros and cons of each university, or perhaps living in each city?
How are the reputations of these schools, compared to each other, in Japan? More specifically, with regards to biology?
I have a general idea of both of these based on what I have read online. However, I would just like to get more first-hand accounts or opinions, if possible.
I would appreciate an answer to one or either questions. Thank you!

  1. They’re both very high level. I don’t know much about biology but both schools are top of the notch. Tsukubas location is in the country compared to Nagoya which is a pretty big city. But I have heard that the research field in Tsukuba is the top in the country.

  2. Tsukuba’s definitely in a better area than Nagoya U. It’s easy access to Tokyo, whereas Nagoya is equally far from just about anywhere interesting. Reputation wise they’re about neck and neck. Since Tokyo and the surrounding areas are far more internationally geared than Aichi(Nagoya), it has far more benefits in terms of research and collaboration.

  3. Hello OP! I’m currently applying to Nagoya U for the second round, and was wondering if I could dm you a couple of questions about the interview process?

    Thank you so much!

  4. I am a G30 student at NU now, but not in Biology. Both schools for Biology department have good reputation.

You can check out this youtuber who was from Tsukuba and she is in Biology. She even went to Oxford for her Masters! [https://youtu.be/-5phnulJ0VE](https://youtu.be/-5phnulJ0VE)

  5. If you are a Tokyo fan, you should choose UT. There is a express train 40-minutes which gets you to Akihabara, a electronics, manga/anime, maid, fun town. From there, you can explore and visit other towns like Ueno, Ginza, etc. Fun, FUN, FUNNN.
