iPhone from Geo

Hello, I have bought sim-free phones from Geo with no issues but this time the phone I want to buy is not sim-free. Anyone have any experience buying an iPhone from Geo that is not Sim free? I am guessing if it’s locked to a network and I use a sim from the same network it should be okay….right?

  1. Ask to test your sim on the phone you’re interested in. So long as you’re buying a locked model for the network that you’re on (I.e au phone if you have an au sim) then you should be fine.

  2. It should be fine if it’s locked to the network you plan to use it with. i.e. docomo locked phone will work with docomo itself, and any mvno which uses the same network.

What’s more important to check is if the phone is actually allowed to access the network – get it’s IMEI (either from interface, or I guess it should be printed on the price sticker) – and run it through the carrier’s IMEI check:

As long as you get a 〇 or △ for it, it should be able to get on the network. △ (at least for docomo) means the phone might still be on a payment plan and MAY be disabled if the previous owner fails to pay – it’s up to you if you want to purchase a phone like that or not. If it’s × then you should not buy it as it’s blacklisted – due to nonpayment or being stolen etc.
