What is the best order for learning Japanese beyond Hiragana + Katakana?

I’ve been trying to learn Japanese and I’m fairly confident in my ability for understanding Hiragana and Katakana. But since i’m self-studying im not really sure where the next thing to study is. For example, should I go for Kanji, Grammar? Vocabulary?

  1. You can do either one of two things. Go the textbook route or go the input route. If you wanna go down the input route, visit https://learnjapanese.moe/ and read the guide/follow the 30 day routine. If you wanna go down the textbook route, look at the sidebar and get a guided study textbook like Genki. I personally find the input method to be more enjoyable, but textbooks aren’t bad assuming you combine it with light input. Personally, I feel like finding a balance between study and input is the most optimal path.

  2. there’s a starter’s guide in the sidebar –>

in general, pick a structured learning source of some sort, whether it’s genki or tae kim or whatever, and supplement with anything else you want
