Is failing at getting PR affects your next application ?

Hello there.

I’m soon eligible to apply for PR. I’m actually meeting all the requirements for it beside one thing :

I have missed to pay on time a resident taxe of 3600yens last year (I don’t even know were was the tax card, I may have lost it without noticing). I have received a 督促状 and paid it on time of course.

All my taxes and pension were paid on time for years beside that one on July of last year.

Is it gonna affect my application greatly ? Should I wait another year before applying ?

And last question : If I’m applying this year and I get rejected because of that, is it gonna affect my second attempt ?

Thank you !

  1. Failing PR will harm your future attempts for at least a year so give it some thought.

If you aren’t on HSP, I think you need like 3 years of on time no delinquent payments.

Since it wasn’t a huge amount and only once, I guess you could Try to explain why you were late in your personal statement and they might let it slide but no guarantees.

  2. The missed resident tax will still be on your record – I think they ask for two years worth? So you’ll have to clear that two years.

  3. Do not apply with a late payment on your record, it will most likely get it rejected. You should wait until it is off of the records that you need to submit.

If you’re applying under 10 year of residency rule, you need to submit past 5 years of documents, so you have to wait until it’s off any of those records. If you’re applying under 3 years of marriage to a Japanese national, it’s past 3 years.

  4. I actually was late by a few days with a tax payment and was sweating bullets when they asked for the receipts but I got PR

  5. Just go for it. I got rejected it the first time but I received it on my second attempt a year later
