watched a video recently with Jeff nippard and Layne Norton where they thought ashwagandha was pretty useful. wondered how I might try some to see if it worked, how do you guys get it and are there concerns about reliability?
Like the other link said, iHerb is your best bet for a lot of American supplements. And buy enough you get free delivery.
From personal experience with Ashwagandha (also due to fitness YouTuber recommendations), I can say it does improve my mood. Can’t say it made my lifts any stronger, but that wasn’t what I was mainly using it for.
But if you do get on it do be prepared for the minor risk of anhedonia, ie, the suppression of joy. Or rather, the inability to feel emotions. This is a *rare* side effect, but it’s a devastating one that can happen.
For me it was only minor. I began to feel less motivated to hit the gym. Things that always piqued my interest, mainly games and anime, just began to feel like a waste of time. Looking at my wife, who always brightens up my morning and gets me ready for anything, suddenly just didn’t hit as hard anymore.
And when I took ashwagandha out of the equation I was back to normal again within a couple of weeks.
This is NOT me saying not to give it a try. For a lot of people anhedonia does not set it and for them it’s a fantastic mood stabilizer. But don’t go in not knowing that it’s a possibility.
