Youtube channels with Japanese subs for learning

I’ve pretty much given up on trying to find subtitles for actual television shows or anything of the like, seems like an area where Japan as a whole is just behind. Can’t find subs for anything new on Kitsunekko.

I’ve also pretty much given up on using Tandem, it’s a struggle to get a reply, especially when your time zone is 13 hours behind.

So the solution: Japanese youtubers seem to be good about including subs in their videos. Can anyone recommend some Japanese Youtube channels?

Right now, [Onomappu](https://www.youtube.com/@Onomappu) and [Fantastic Workspace](https://www.youtube.com/@rshosai) are my favorites. Also looking into [Archipel](https://www.youtube.com/@ArchipelDocumentaries)(though Japanese is only auto-generated)

  1. Netflix has a big selection of movies and japanese tv shows as well as anime with Japanese subtitles.

  2. TokiniAndy recently recommended searching for Game + 実況プレイ, which brings up Let’s Play videos. Find a series and off you go, I’m currently working through a Minecraft Let’s Play and it’s brilliant.

  3. Netflix BUT with a VPN set to Japan IP. You’ll find good accurate japanese subtitles and a lot more anime.

I like using the autogenerated japanese subs on youtube but sometimes they are a bit off.

I found this funny kids cartoon that is pretty slice of life called Atashin’chi あたしンち

Easy to follow along and they have a ton of episodes which I think portray an accurate take on japanese conversation.

  4. あかね的の日本語教室 is an absolute gem. She’s a Japanese teacher, so she’s really good at speaking in a way that easier for learners to understand. Highly recommend.

  5. I actually use yuyu’s nihongo podcast pretty often. It’s completely subbed and he speaks with the intention that beginners are listening and uses simple words 🙂

  6. This might not be what you’re really looking for, but I’ve recently been watching this guy [おだけん](https://www.youtube.com/@Odaaaaken), who plays horror games (especially small indie ones). He’s pretty funny and I think it’s interesting to see a lot of kind of random horror games. Depending on your Japanese level, it might be a bit tough to understand, but I’ve been enjoying it and learning a lot of new vocabulary.

The subtitles are auto-generated, but in my experience they are actually pretty good for the most part. There are some errors in them of course, but that hasn’t been too much of a problem for me.

Like someone else already mentioned, I recommend looking up looking up 実況プレイ (let’s play videos).
