Travel insurance

Hi, I’m a current JET and I’m going to SE Asia over the New Year holidays.

Just wondering does the Accident Insurance cover us for trips abroad or will I have to get travel insurance? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for travel insurance I can get out here in Japan

  1. Here’s the link to the [2022 JET Programme Accident Insurance Policy](https://jetprogramme.org/wp-content/MAIN-PAGE/current/insuranceandtaxes/insurance/jpai/R04_JETshogaihokenseido_no_shiori_e_22.03.pdf).

    It also says “【Policy Outline】
Under this policy, comprehensive insurance coverage for overseas travel accidents is provided for Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants (hereinafter called “JET participants”) by a private insurance entity in contract with the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).”

  2. I’m travelling to the UK over Xmas and got separate insurance. I used World Nomads, haven’t tried them before but the policy does cover my flight costs in case of Covid.

  3. I think it only covers accidents but it will cover you abroad. I think it won’t cover things like your flight getting cancelled so it might be worth purchasing an additional policy from another provider.

  4. We were told the accident insurance is primarialy a medical thing, like if something physically happens to you overseas.

Also, For people traveling to the US or somewhere where medical is insanely expensive, you can use your JET Medical to go the the hospital.
