Hey everyone👋,
I’m 32 years old and from Los Angeles,California. Been bartending for almost 10 years out here at all kinds of places and am well versed(Breweries, nightclub, classic/craft cocktails). Recently visited Japan and its one of those places I added to my small list of places I’d love to live in for a little bit. And was wondering how hard would it be getting a job for me in the bar scene out there to possibly move out there sometime this year? Preferably Tokyo area. Osaka second choice. My girlfriend is a Spanish teacher so she would just do that. Also we both don’t know Japanese but are going to start learning now😅
Any tips are appreciated! Thank you!😁

Bartender is not a profession that is capable of sponsoring a visa. It’s also one of the rare professions that is off limits to those on working holiday visas (which as a resident of the US is not something you’d be able to do anyway) or students.
So basically, if you had a status of residence in Japan that allowed you to work in bars, finding a job would not be hard. But that status of residence would require a Japanese spouse or a Japanese parent/grandparent/great-grandparent.
Zero chance.
Can you find a traditional bartending craftsman without heirs who will sponsor you as an apprentice?
I’ve seen some bartenders from abroad who work in Japan but all of them got married to a Japanese citizen and have a spouse or PR visa.
