Question regarding ‘Let’s Try’ books?

So none of the 3rd ot 4th graders at my school have textbooks this year. The vice principal showed me a list of textbooks that the MOE approves of and pays for and grades 3 and 4 had no books approved. I’m pretty sure that since 2018, English is mandatory for grades 3 and 4 and should have textbooks. Usually, the books arrive before spring break, but now the vice principal is waiting to hear back from the MOE which he emailed. It’s ridiculous, because even if there was a change- thanks for telling me!! Have any of you had a change to no use of textbooks at your schools? It’s gotta be a mistake.

  1. Yah, that’s news to me! Started using “Let’s Try” this week. Something interesting going on in your city.

  2. More than likely they are hiding some where in the school or someone forgot to order them

  3. English is mandatory for grades 5/6, and while “foreign language activities” are highly encouraged for grades 3/4, I don’t think they’re technically required at the national level. That being said, it does sound like someone dropped the ball about getting books.

  4. Blue Sky is the best textbook, no idea why it’s not used more. Everyone around here uses Let’s Try for 3-4, and One World Smiles for 5-6

  5. There are no official textbooks for the third and fourth grades because they’re not nationally mandatory (although I could be wrong). Whereas 5th and 6th became mandatory and so have textbook publishers making books for them.

I would just make photocopies of old books for the parts you’d like to use. I’m not sure they’re still making the books, either. The city you are in should have a curriculum that tells you what to do.

  6. My schools have also been using them already, same as last years books. Could you use the digital materials and make copies (if you have an extra book of PDF of books) for the kids for the first few classes if you need to use the books? That’s crazy though… could you ask your supervisor at the BOE?
