Itinerary post for September 2023 trip to Tokyo, Japan

Hi, I am going on my first ever out of the country trip with three of my friends. We have a Itinerary made but we aren’t trying to plan out entire days and are trying to leave wiggle room in every day so that we don’t feel like we need to be rushed and so we can also take breaks/slow down as some of us (mostly me) aren’t in the best of shape.

We plan to stay mostly in Tokyo, with the furthest for sure area being Yokohama. (We’re in talks of maybe taking a flight to Nagoya to check out Ghibli Park but we wanna talk about it more first)

I am just hoping anyone may have any ideas of what we’re missing, recommendations, possibly even alternatives to what we have listed. This is an expensive trip so far, so we wanna make sure we’re getting the most out of it 🙂

The hotel we’re planning on staying at is the Sakura Hotel Jimbocho as it would fit 4 people, It’s next to the train station, and was cheap but nice.

  1. Wow. You planned your meals and everything.

Nothing wrong with planning where you want to go a little, but remember it’s also a lot of fun to just walk around the town a bit to discover things. Especially planning your meals like this seems excessive.

Also, this long a stay in Tokyo? Tokyo is great, but Japan has so many more beautiful places as well. This is a very long trip to just stay in one city.

  2. Understand that Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo in Sunshine City Mall would be super packed on weekend

  3. 11, Shibuya Sky, there is also a lot of shopping area, 109, Shibuya Parko, Miyashita park…

12, Roppongi Hills, including the observation deck and museum, Zojo-ji temple, Red Tokyo Tower

    13, Nakano

16, Thé new Animate in Ikebukuro is now their biggest store

You do have a lot every day, ok if the are ideas, but doing everything is he opposite of having time to breathe.

  4. As mentioned already a lot of these are already very tightly packed and leave very little room for deviation.

I love most of the things you’ve mentioned, but I’d get burned out after 2 full days of Akibabara, plus all the other planned shopping areas. Tokyo is amazing and has more then enough to offer, but I’d really suggest spreading out a bit more to see some other sides of Japan. Kyoto or Osaka would be some good examples to get a nice change of scenery.

Yokohama deserves some more time as well. We just spent a full day there yesterday and still had things we had to drop. Going there after lunch and somehow still cramming Meiji Jingu before hand leaves very little time left.

If you go to Nagoya for the Ghibli Park (which I highly recommend if you love Ghibli, I preferred it over the museum) just take the Shinkansen, really no need to fly. Its easy, faster and (I assume) cheaper.

  5. You have too much going on. Tokyo Skytree has plenty of shopping. I recommend tickets and going during sunset.

Shibuya scramble, also has shopping and dining.

When doing itinerary’s most people pick 2 main activities.

I also agree that you should spend some time in Kyoto and Osaka.

    Akihabara doesn’t need 2 days.

You can start prepping doing a lot of walking before the trip so you will feel more comfortable.
