Letter of recommendation

I got a paid internship position for a software engineering for 5 months. (For college credit) Now for the CoE application (Cultural activities, which does allow a stipend) I need a letter of recommendation. When I asked my university teacher he told me to write it myself and he would sign it. Now I have never written one before, what am I supposed to put in it? Does it need to cover my technical skills or does it need to be more about generic skills (hard working, etc.)

I have no idea what immigration expects from it. Are there any guidelines or tips?

  2. I don’t think this is the correct subreddit. Immigration isn’t going to care about the contents of your letter of immigration. Just google “letter of immigration example” and you will get all you need.

  3. The letter is for immigration, right?

It’s similar to a cover letter to a job application, but written in the third person. Outline your studies, work experience, and the projects that you’ve done with the theme of being prepared for this internship and it helping you pursue your future goals.

The first paragraph should be about your relationship with the professor: what classes you’ve done, are they your advisor/mentor (?), etc. I’d keep it to a page double spaced.

The professor would likely read and edit it before signing it. You’re basically just typing up your resume for them and saving them from doing some of the leg work. Honestly, I think that the most important thing from immigration is that it is on official school letter head.

  4. I used to handle a couple of internship coes for my previous company. The letter of recommendation does not need to come from a professor (but doesn’t hurt), but can also come from your universities international office or internship office. In principle it should state your skills (but very simply) and explain how the internship will be beneficial to your education.
