How would you feel about Tama Tonga being the next IWGP champion?

1. If they can make him a credible threat before he makes his challenge, sure.

   As is he now, it would be weird. Cool, but weird.

2. I think there’s alot of people ahead of him for the next reign.

   If you mean next first time champion I’d still say Zack deserves it more and Naito technically isn’t a champion of this new belt yet.

   This Guy has been loyal to NJPW for so long, and with his New face persona it could work very well.

12. I think there are guys that are more deserving of an IWGP World Heavyweight Title run, than Tama Tonga. I personally would love Zack Sabre Jr to have a run with the title.

13. It would probably get a huge initial pop but not be super successful overall. I do love Tama though and he had probably one of the best face turns I’ve ever seen

    Why else would he be the first person “jumped out” of Bullet Club but then not leave NJPW?

15. I have been a fan of G.O.D. Gorillas of Destiny for a long time. Tama Tonga has the charisma, physical dominance, and angles in storylines you want to watch.

24. I like Tonga but no. If NJPW was going to give out another Nakanishi-esque title win I’d prefer it to be Goto or Suzuki.

25. I’m not a huge NJPW follower, but I felt he should have been pushed to the moon 4 years ago. Kinda late now. Liking Sanada as champ now. Oh, and replace the belt.

26. I like him, I wouldn’t hate it, but I don’t see it. US champ though? I can see that, yeah.

27. I used to be a wrestler and I’ve met Tama, he’s a dick and thinks too much of himself to probably ever get considered tbh. Even if he is that good his ego doesn’t get him far in the back.

29. I absolutely love Tama but I think he’s in Goto status. But that is not a bad thing. Roddy Piper anf Magnum TA never held big boy belts it’s irrelevant because they were amazing.

30. Most guys in the business will never be at the level to legit hold a top belt. Thats just part of the business.

31. I feel like the time for him should’ve been when he was in the bullet club story line with Jay and the good brothers. He should’ve won the G1 and then taken on bullet club members on his way to the title. At this point if he wins it would be cool but he’s established himself enough that he doesn’t need the title to make him.

32. TV Asahi did a poll just last year of the 50 most popular wrestlers.

    Tama Tonga was NOWHERE on that list. Even Jeff Cobb made the list at 37 and there are other western wrestlers (mainly NJPW) on that list.

    I think the company knows better than to throw the title on a guy who won’t draw.

33. Nah, I’m good on that. Tama isn’t ‘that dude’ to carry the IWGP championship. I know I would rather Shingo or Ishii get a run with the belt looooong before Tama.

34. As much as I think he’s championship material, there are a few others in line before him, mostly ZSJ. But given his tag team successes, he doesn’t really *need* a world title run.

42. Not for me atm, Now there testing the water with SANADA, I feel he has to lose it to a big name whenever that is, or it becomes abit pass it to anyone.

    I think the fact that people like Ishii and Goto have never managed to get the belt really adds to the prestige of the belt. Only the true elite win it.

44. I feel like the opportunity to make him champ has honestly passed. He was SUPER HOT for like 6 weeks in 2018 during the whole Bullet Club civil war deal, but has cooled off considerably since then. He’s still good. But I don’t feel like he’s a top guy right now.

45. If Tama Tonga becomes IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and Hirooki Goto doesn’t, I may have a goddamn stroke.
