What Japanese name means “Ninth Son”?

I know that is a word for it, but the spelling is always different. Is it, Kurōu or Kurō?

  1. *kurou* and *kurō* are two different ways of romanizing the same thing, they are pronounced the same

  2. You wouldn’t write ‘Kurou’ with the line above the o.

That line is a long-vowel marker.

Having that but still using the ‘ou’ digraph would make it ‘kuroou’, which just sound weird.

  3. It’s 九郎 but i think people would avoid using that as a name since it sounds like 苦労 (hardship).
