**Japan’s National Consumer Affairs Center has warned consumers of Chinese websites masquerading as “Japanese e-commerce sites”**, using the similarity of JPY(ï¿¥) and CNY(China also uses symbolï¿¥) , resulting in consumers paying **20X the price due to it being actually CNY (RMB).**
Consumers report the webpages were entirely in Japanese and the contents were seemingly normal, thus didn’t realize they were fleeced until they received their credit card bills.
Just watch out if you’re shopping online.

Local news also reported this: [https://newsdig.tbs.co.jp/articles/-/443917](https://newsdig.tbs.co.jp/articles/-/443917) apparently there have been over 100 cases reported to the National Consumer Affairs Center just related to this Chinese scam e-commerce website (now taken down).
I’ve seen a lot of fishy ads that leads to fishy ec sites appearing on the Google feed of my Android, which I think started in the last 6 months or so. Unlike normal websites, the ads are significantly harder to block or report.
