While looking for jobs, I’m seeing a lot of “Requirements Residing in Japan”. Is this normal?

Hello,

I’ve just begun my research on looking for work in Japan and I’ve noticed a lot of jobs (such as on GaijinPot) stating a requirement of “Residing in Japan”. I understand that many companies are going to want people who are already in Japan to make the employment process easy. But is this the standard? In other words, is it usually the case that someone already has to be in Japan in order to find work?

Thanks!

  1. The borders have been closed for the last two years, and have only been open again for a few weeks.

So, yes… This has been the standard process for the past couple of years, because otherwise it would be literally impossible to hire anyone.

Now that the borders are open, you can expect to see significantly less of the “must reside in Japan” thing. There has always been *some* of it, but don’t conflate pandemic-related standards with more normal hiring practices.

  2. yeah most people dont even want to deal with importing people so its pretty normal. You can still get a job but many companies want people already here its much easier for them.
