Sushi prices

Does this look like over $100 worth of sushi? Not complaining at all, it was delicious. Just curious what you guys spend

  1. Looks like 8 pieces of sushi, 2 special rolls, and what I would guess is like 8 pieces of Sashimi in the middle?

$5 a piece for the sushi, $10 each for the rolls , and $5 each for the sashimi would be $100

  2. Looks about $50-80. It’s a good mix of fish but doesn’t seem to be good quality and the rainbow roll mishmash in the middle is a sign of a non-Japanese restaurant. Now that at a fancy restaurant could easily be $150-$300, but again, that is low-grade sushi not the high-end stuff. That said, I bet it was delicious!! I hope this helps.

  3. Price point is extremely dependent on location. Same thing in Anytown, USA and South Beach, Miami FL will be radically different.

What I spend, likewise, super dependent on location and what I’m in the mood for. Could be $30 or $300.

  4. Looks good. The amaebi could be as much as $20 for the pair. Same with the toro, so that’s $40 right there. I’d say $70-$80 is a good price for this combo with $100 being on the higher end. I would stop short of saying $100 is too much.

  5. Weird to see ebi and amiebi on the same dish.

The amiebi and toro look fairly high end, but I wouldn’t pay $100 for this stuff, especially the octopus and general sashimi mess in the middle.

Where I live in SoCal, we’ve got places with Michelin stars that charge $150 for an eight-course meal… so $100 for this seems pretty high.

  6. Hell no. I live in Vancouver. We have several high end sushi restaurants. If I pay $100 or more it’s for premium fish flown in from Japan directly from the Tsukiji Market.

  7. I live in a landlocked place and this would be around $60, give or take, at a nice sushi restaurant here.

  8. Thanks everyone! Usually when I eat sushi by myself it is around $60. I did order an extra roll and I don’t normally get the Toro, but I felt like it was a bit over priced. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t off base.

  9. That’s feels pricey, especially since the rolls look like only a few pieces? Bay Area prices for a solidly good (not omakase) joint would probably be:

    Sake: 7
Rainbow: 15 (but would be bigger)
Shrimp tempura roll: 10 (again, bigger)
    Tako: 7
    Shrimp+ fried heads: 10-15
    Ikura: 7
    Toro: 16

Nigiris would be more expensive if you are ordering off a specials board but that all looks p standard

  10. Just going off the menu of a nearby restaurant with pretty good reviews in Vancouver Canada… These are in Canadian dollars, so it’s even cheaper in USD

    * Nigiri is around 2-3 bucks each so 10 x 3 = 30
    * 4 Pieces of the roll I can’t tell what that is (fried shrimp?). Usually, 8pcs of specialty roll is ~10 bucks, so 8/2 = 4
    * A small amount of assortment sashimi? 18pcs here is 30 bucks, but thick and big cuts (unlike the pic). Not sure how to calculate it, but I would rate it at 15 bucks at most for the ones in the pic

    30+15+4 = ~49CAD

And that’s what I would expect…not $100. Unless this restaurant is using some TOP quality ingredients. Most sushi restaurants are priced similarly here unless it’s one of those fancy ones.

  11. $30 at my local AYCE place. On average I eat about 40 pieces. Yeah yeah AYCE isn’t always the best quality…but damn I love it so much.

  12. At my local place you’d be looking at $10-$14 for each pair of nigiri ($60-$84) plus $20-$25 for the mixed sashimi in the middle, and IDK what for that half / quarter sized roll. Normal rolls made with half sheets of nori are $14-$24 at every restaurant here, so I’m going to guess half that. Minimum $87 before tip would be my guess

  13. Looks like toro on the right. You’re paying market price. Given everything else there…. near 100 sure.
