I recently acquired a few of the books from the Japanese Language Promotion Center’s “Intensive Course in Japanese” for very cheap. Unfortunately, the seller did not have the tapes, and looking through the books, it seems the tapes are crucial to using them.
Does anyone know if these tapes have entered the public domain, or where I could buy them?

There seems to have been a few editions, including c.1970 and c.1980. And maybe a later version too.
It seems the UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO has (or catalogued) audio tapes [https://dma.uchicago.edu/collections/1900](https://dma.uchicago.edu/collections/1900)
You might find some more clues from WORLDCAT. They reference some “cassettes” and “kits”. They note some libraries which stock them. However, WorldCat is not perfect IME. For example, the 1980 cassettes seem to be at University of Minnesota [https://www.worldcat.org/title/8678328](https://www.worldcat.org/title/8678328)
For search purposes:
** Some of the 1980 versions were published, “by Prosper, Tokyo Minato-Ku Minami-Aoyama 3-8-40, and sold overseas by Maruzen (no ISBN)”
** For the 1970 versions, I see on the intro pages the following data:
EDITOR: Japanese Language Promotion Center
PUBLISHER: Language Services Co, LTD no.3 Kioi-cho Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan
OVERSEAS SOLE AGENT: Maruzen Co, LTD 6 Tori-nichome, nihonbashi Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan
