Looking for an English textbook for Japanese adults.

I currently work for a Japanese company in the countryside who hired me partially to teach teach their employees English. I have around 25 students of varying levels (absolute beginner to B2). I’ve been teaching them for 6 months so far using the Pearson “Market Leader” business English textbook.

When this book finishes in about six months I would like to switch to something a little easier for my students. I’m focusing mainly on speaking and business skills at the moment. Though my lowest level students (around 14 students) do need lots of structure (they are the ones I’m most worried about). I’m teaching up to groups of 5 and some individual lessons for highest level students. Something with Japanese translations or text would be appreciated but is not 100% necessary. I’m 100% in charge of programming so any and all advice is appreciated! I’ll pay attention to the thread to answer questions. 🙏🏻

  1. In my opinion, Business Results is the best series among all the business English textbooks. It covers a wide variety of business situations from all the angles – that is, it doesn’t only focus on grammar like a lot of those textbooks do. It also has sections on vocabulary, functional language, and communication.

In addition, the videos are excellent for teaching listening. They are not graded, which makes them appropriately challenging; and because the subject matter is simple, the language is not overly difficult. They also have a variety of pronunciations, such as Germans speaking English, American accents, UK accents (and not just RP).

There is also a good amount of material on the website, for review and reinforcement as well as listening scripts and video scripts.

Can tell you more if you are interested.

  2. I actually like the Passport series, and for your class, Passport to Work would work. I enjoyed the structure, illustrations and extras like bilingual information segments at the back of the textbook delving into the theme of each chapter.
