Itinerary Check – 12 (ish) Days in Japan

Hi all! I’ve been practically living on this sub trying to create the perfect itinerary (with my partner). It’s riiight around the corner, so the actual locations don’t have wiggle room but the listed “to dos” of each day can be adjusted.

If you have any fave itineraries for the day trips (Nara, Nikko) I’d love to see them!!

*Question: JR pass – worth it? Feels worth it…*

Day 1: Tokyo/Shinjuku – Fly in; HND 5:25pm. Pickup PocketWiFi & JR Pass at Haneda, Monorail to Shinjuku.

Day2: Tokyo/Shinjuku – Relax, explore Shinjuki, Harajuku, Shibuya?

Day 3: Tokyo/Shinjuku – Kabuki show? Tea ceremony? Imperial Palace? Asakusa, Akihabara, eat Kikanbo spicy ramen for dinner, Nezu shrine? Mejiro

Day 4: Tokyo/Shinjuku – Day trip to Nikko? or to Mt. Fuji area? Imperial Palace?

Day 5: Hiroshima – Shinkansen to Hiroshima, Peace Memorial Museum & Park, hike mount Misen, Hiroshima Castle, Shukkeien Garden

Day 6: Hiroshima – Ferry to Miyajima, Itsukushima Shrine and Momijidani Park

Day 7: Kyoto – Shinkansen to Kyoto, Inari shrine, Mt. Hiei, Arashiyama district, Gion Geisha district

Day 8: Kyoto – Arashiyama district, bamboo forest, Nishiki market (at night?)

Day 9: Kyoto- Day trip to Nara? Day trip to Osaka? Explore more Kyoto?

Day 10: Hakone – Shinkansen to Hakone, Hakone Open Air Museum, chill and explore, hot springs

Day 11: Tokyo – Breakfast at Ryokan, Mt. Fuji & Lake Kawaguchiko, go to the Fuji Shibazakura Festival & the Fuji Delicious Food Festival, Arakura Sengen Shrine for view of chureito pagoda and mt fuji, train to Tokyo, go to teamLab Planets exhibit

Day 12: Tokyo – Tsukiji Outer Market, NEX to Narita. Fly out.

    The market closes at 6 PM and a lot of the smaller shops will close once they run out of food, so I’d go there before Bamboo Forest or even early in the morning rather than at night
