How do I ask someone to “act it out” or “gesture” a concept in Japanese?

I’m starting to do language exchange calls through Tandem and I know for sure that I’ll hit points where my partner will use a word I don’t know, perhaps one not even remotely close to any reference words I can infer from. I want to ask them to demonstrate it as best as they can without reverting to English. Any good ways to say this? All the dictionary entries for “act” or “gesture” don’t seem quite right to me, or at least I can’t find a reasonable usage online for them. Thanks!

  1. Agree with the other comment, you can always just say something like;

    〇〇が分からないんですから、他の言葉で説明しませんか?

    Or just throw in a

    〇〇はどういう意味ですか?

  2. I would say : その言葉(ことば)を、英語(えいご)を使わず(つかわず)に、身振り手振り(みぶりてぶり)で表して(あらわして)もらえませんか?

  3. You want them to act out or make gestures to explain the concept right? not just the word you dont know? correct?

    Regardless, a coverall would be “もう少し簡単に説明してください” 。

    maybe throw ”難しい表現や単語がわからないので” at it as well to get the desired result.

    A point to note as well is that you cant just say your English thoughts in Japanese and expect that to be correct. You need to say something that Japanese people would naturally say in the given situation. Thus “act it out” and “gesture it” might not be the best way to express the thought here.

  4. Maybe something along the lines of:

    ジェスチャーを使ってもらえませんか?
