So, I’m checking my two local movie theatres and it seems like neither are offering the new Super Mario movie in it’s original English voice acting…only the Japanese dubbed version. No subs or anything.
Is this happening everywhere or are some of you lucky enough to see the original version?

It’s playing at both my kobe cinemas with subtitles… so it has to be in Tokyo as well

That’s the more common way movies generally geared towards children are released.
Depends where you are. If you’re living in the country side, there may be limited screenings of the sub version or none at all. This usually happens with foreign animated/family films.
Also, are you checking for the 2D screening and not the IMAX 3D ones? The 3D screenings will almost always be dubbed.

Depends on the location and theater. Most theaters are showing the subtitled version just once a day. The opposite of that is the new premium 109 Cinema in Shinjuku, which is showing the sub version 7 times vs 2 times for the dub.
Yokohama and the first 2 theatres I checked have either dubbed or subbed in both IMAX and non-IMAX versions.
Here they’re showing the sub version even in IMAX 3D, which is unusual, and I don’t live in a big city
Just checked the movie theaters in Shinjuku and they have subs (though it seems like they have a lot more showings for dubs). Looks like MOVIX and SMT places will most likely have subs?
Usually movies for kids are offered in Japanese language only unless it’s a plex theater that can afford multiple screening in the original language with Japanese subs.
Roppongi Hills has it in English every evening.
Where in Japan are you? You may need to go to a cinema in a popular part of a major city to watch a subtitled version. Even then, there many not be many showings for subtitled.
My local cinema is offering these daily:
* DUB Regular: 5 showings
* DUB IMAX Laser 3-D: 3 showings
* DUB 4DX 3-D: 4 showings
* SUB Regular: 2 showings

In my area the giant new Aeon mall has it, so it’s possible that big theaters with many rooms to spare for duplicate movies (2D, 3D, etc) tend to have big name 3D US anime in original En dub (JP sub).
In Aomori, they only have the Japanese dub at all theaters. Thought they would have it because there is a U.S. base nearby one of the theaters. (N2-level Japanese, but watching a movie in its original language is the best).

Toho Cinemas Shinjuku is showing original audio with Japanese subtitles.
My local theater in Kansai is screening it with subs and dubbed
Both options in Osaka. Subbed version mostly pushed to nighttime though
Chiba has zero subbed versions. Like the entire prefecture. ZERO.
Driving up to Saitama to the 109 Cinema there which has a bunch of subbed showings 👍🏼

TL,DR: if watching with sub is really important, maybe make plans to spend the day in the nearest “big city”.

If you’re not in (or nearby) the big cities, most movies/animation targeted for children will only have Japanese dub release.
Where I live (inaka in Saitama), I’ve “had” to watch Frozen 2 and Remember Me with Japanese dubs (wasn’t in the mood to travel more than 2 hours just to watch a movie).
On the other hand, all the movies (even Marvel/super heroes ones) had a last screening subs only session (2D only, because of course).

TOHO in Nijo, Kyoto also shows the sub version but pretty late in the evening (21:40-00:40)
