recommendations for quick trip

Hello everybody! I’m an exchange student in Nagoya, with a deep interest in exploring Japan and making the most of my time here.
In the upcoming golden week I have reserved a trip to Tokyo, however, I also wanted to make use of the weekend to have a daytrip (or a couple days) in another destination. I was looking for something interesting in the area, whether a must-see or off the tourist path, that would not take me much effort (so maybe not a big city like Kyoto, or anything that requires a shinkansen). Any recommendation is much appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

  1. Ise is not too far from Nagoya and worth a trip. It could be busy though during golden week since its a popular destination for japanese people.

  2. I’m very biased, but come to Gunma! Takasaki is an easy day trip from Tokyo (though I’ll be honest, it can be a little hard getting around without a car. Not impossible though! You just gotta plan your route/check public transport schedules in advance)

  3. Head to Ueno Station and take the bullet train up north to Aomori. Between the Neputa museum, Jomon historical sites, the aviation museum in Misawa, Hirosaki Castle, the unbombed historical temples in Hirosaki and Mt. Iwaki, there is plenty to occupy an overnight trip. Good food all over the place, too. Aomori is a top-ranked tourist destination for Japanese and foreigners alike for a good reason.

If you wanted to go a little further, you could head to Hakodate in Hokkaido instead. Great little city with scenic views/architecture, good food, Japan’s only star fort and some nice hotels. Also lets you say you’ve visited another island in Japan.
