Hiroshima // Hotels All Sold Out? Why? May 18-20

Hiroshima is on the last leg of my travels for my 30th birthday but it seems like every single 4+ star hotel is sold out on these dates. I know I should have booked well in advance but this was a last-minute addition. Any idea why?

Sheraton Grand, Hilton, Right, Grand Prince, Crowne, everything is sold out…

  1. The G7 summit is in Hiroshima those days (19th-21th). I imagine most upmarket hotels are being used various countries for heads of state, foreign dignitaries, staff, etc…

  2. Oh man ok I need to think of another stop for 2 nights… I’m coming from Osaka/Kyoto. Any ideas? Then heading back to Tokyo

  3. Because the entire world is in Japan right now. 3 years of backed up post-COVID tourists, Japan becoming even trendier thanks to Tiktok/insta etc, a weak yen, Sakura season. Made the tourist parts of my recent trip to visit family unenjoyable.

  4. I just did a night at a ryokan in the hills above Nara and I can easily imagine being happy spending a second night in that town, especially if you’re into looking at museums and temples.

Alternatively, I’ve spent two nights in Kobe and LOVED it (tons of great food), and I’d also highly recommend Arima Onsen (there are some very nice middle and high tier ryokans there).

  5. We are going to be in Hiroshima for those 3 days as well! Thank you for posting or we would have never noticed!

  6. Hijacking the post, will Hiroshima be affected pre-G7 like 13-14 may? Was thinking of going there but am worried

  7. When I planned my trip and was looking for accommodation in Hiroshima, it was booked so I ended up booking something in Kobe, after visiting Osaka, and quite frankly I was happy with that decision and made sense to me in terms of planning. I enjoyed Arima Onsen that is close to them one day and had a great experience.

  8. Kurashiki is a lovely little town with great ryokans for a relaxing two day stay
