Taxi

Hello! I’m moving to Tokyo next week and I’m trying to figure out Taxi scene in Tokyo. I have heard that the fare is ridiculously high. I’ll appreciate if y’all could help me find cheaper taxis or any taxi that is easily available there. Thanks already!

  1. The solution is NOT to use taxi for long-distance travel. There are plethora of options from railway to bus that cover pretty much the entire Tokyo.

The short distance price is not bad because, well, they are short disrance.

  2. Could you explain more about your situation? It seems like you need to rely on taxis more than the average resident.

  3. You know Japan has a fantastic public transportation system, right? Trains. Busses. All that stuff.

What are planning on doing/where are you planning on living that taxi costs are such a big deal?

  4. Taxis aren’t all that expensive for short trips. I use them all the time for traveling a few kilometers. Anything further than that, it’s worth taking public transit.

Not really. Long distance, and crossing between prefectures will add up, but usually not too bad.

I usually use the Taxi GO app. Taxi fares tend to be the the same for all taxi.

But since public transportation is easily accessible, I pretty much only use taxi after the last train, or for business (in which case I get reimbursed by the company)
