I have a really old iMac (2008 model) that I need to get rid of.
Would someplace like Hard Off buy something like that?
If not, how can I get rid of this thing? (It doesn’t have a battery inside it).

Go to your nearest Yamada Denki or Yodobashi Camera.
If you go to their service counter and ask them to dispose of e-waste they’ll make you sign a waiver saying you won’t ask for it back and they’ll take it and dispose of it.
Might want to call ahead since it’s big.
Other option, sell it as junk on Mercari. Someone might buy it for 2000 yen or something.
You can dispose of it through Apple. It will be picked up from your home. Do it through the Apple website.

If you are confident with the Japanese language, try ジモティー. I got rid of all the junk with the app
For a 2008 iMac I’d put it in Yahoo Auctions. Is it the white polycarbonate model? There’s a collector market for those older machines.
