Odd food related questions- Ume Onigiri with whole ume and not the saucey stuff? Croquette without beef?

Hey everyone. I live in Tokyo and there’s 2 things I used to get back home at the local Japanese grocery store in New Jersey- onigiri that had a whole plum in the middle and not that saucy stuff you get here from conbini onigiris, and croquettes that were just potato. Anyone know where I can find either of those in tokyo? cheers

  1. Go to any onigiri store! The ones made in house by a little old lady are best.
Same with croquettes its always the little hole in the wall mum and pop joins that are best.

Combini try to cut costs and the food is never as good as homemade

  2. Gyoumu have vegetable croquettes – mostly potato with the odd bit of corn. They also have sweet potato ones.

  3. I think you can find onigiri with the small plum with the hard seed still inside at certain stores. The croquette without beef can be found at many places, even the local supermarkets carry them in their pre-made food section. They have Japanese pumpkin, crab cream, plain potato, meat, etc.
