Sponsored work visa

Hello,
I have a job offer from an IT japanese company, if I accept the job they will sponsor my work visa to move to Japan. I was wondering what happens if once I move to Japan, I decide to work for another company, will the transition happen smoothly or will I face problems and will have to go back to my country maybe?

Thank you

  2. The specific process will vary based on the status of residence you hold.

If you come over on a Highly Skilled Foreign Professional (HSFP) status, then your status of residence is tied to the employer. If you leave your job you’d have to have a new employer lined up pretty quickly and requalify for that status of residence.

If you come over on an Engineer status of residence, then you’re covered for all domestic employment of the same type without any changes needed. You’d need to inform immigration within two weeks of leaving your job, and within two weeks of starting your new job. You can be unemployed for 90 days before immigration may take an interest in what you’re doing (but if you’re actively looking for work you’re not in any danger of having your status cancelled early).
