Persian Pitch Accent

Is SHOCKINGLY similar to Japanese pitch accent. I was looking up out of curiosity the list of languages with pitch accents, and surprisingly my native Persian/Farsi was there. So I spoke for a bit, and noticed yes this entire time I’d been using pitch accent. There’s also been linguistics research papers confirming this topic, but only fairly recently relative to the linguistic research history of both languages. Genuinely don’t understand how this went past my time learning Japanese in the past. A lot of loan words often from English are said exactly the same, so it shows that the actual fundamental pronunciation structure is very similar, not just grouped into the same linguistic accent category

So what’s the point of this besides rubbing it in? No but also kinda yes

Pitch accent goes over most people’s heads. I natively speak with a pitch accent, I’ve studied/learnt Japanese before, casually studied linguistics before, watched videos specifically about Japanese pitch accent, and this went entirely over my head. Not just the connection between the two languages, but also my bloody native tongue being pitch accent. I’d assume this applies to Japanese people too, it’s not something you notice day-to-day. So really, there’s probably not a need to explicitly focus on pitch accent. If you can occasionally think about and recognize pitch accent when listening, and sometimes ask why your speaking got a funny stare (you said x word weird), it should kinda just come with time?

    Huh?

  2. I also speak some native farsi, but I’m bilingual and it’s the weaker one by far. I noticed similarities and always felt like it was giving me an advantage in Japanese, but is that actually based on anything? I feel like it helped me understand particles and contextual language with ease and somehow even pronouncing Japanese sounds. Am I crazy or no?

Edit: also devoicing vowels definitely exists in farsi
