  1. Oh god, please stop creating useless titles. What’s even the point of doing that when they just created the IWGP women’s belt ?

  2. So we are not only not getting rid of Strong titles, we are creating more with far fewer US shows…

  3. What do we need? More titles of course!!!

It’s getting to be WWE levels of ridiculousness. The IWGP women’s title was meant to be defended in the United States. Why do we need a second title that serves the same purpose? This is the third title they’ve introduced in the past six months.

  4. Can someone tell me for the love of God why they decided to make another title when they have enough belts already.

The strong belts are no longer important when you bring in the main titles from Japan. Why make another women’s title when you just debuted the iwgp women’s belt last year?

Instead of getting rid of them, they decided to do the opposite. WHAT IS THE POINT?

  5. The title is mostly filler, I’m more interested in the potential matches.

Was hoping for Giulia after her teaser though.

  6. You think this sucks? Wait until NJPW starts doing what STARDOM does and having 4 ppvs a month and less shows live on World.

  7. This is stupid as fuck. Strong as a brand is kinda dead — and the entire purpose of the IWGP Women’s Title was to bring in western and Joshi fans. So you segment that off with making another women’s title? Why?

  8. Here is the problem straight out with the iwgp women’s title. Stardom simply do not want women off shows. Bushiroad can lean on them for sakura genesis or dominion but rossy will push back on losing iwatani from a show in Japan for a njoa show. Stardom are running the 19th, 20th and 21st in Japan.

Rossy will see value in iwatani wrestling on a big new japan card in Japan that he won’t think exists in the US.

Ultimately I think the actual point of the iwgp women’s title is to advertise stardom to new Japan’s domestic audience so they keep picking off new japan fans into bushiroad wrestling in general fans. I don’t think it’s perhaps as western focused as maybe they implied.

  9. It seems to me like NJPW is banking on Mercedes to sell more tickets and really open up that market in the US for NJPW again, like how The Bullet Club and The Elite did for them.

Also, NJPW essentially now has two women’s titles that they can use to get more women on the card, which is a plus.

It’s confusing because wasn’t the point of the IWGP Women’s Championship to be defended in Japan and the US to attract more fans to Joshi? But you now have a second belt to do that. But if this ties in with my second point, then I guess I see why they’re doing it.

But then you probably won’t get matches like Mercedes vs. Giulia or Syuri or Utami in the US. They’ll want to save it for Japan unless there’s already deals in place.

I don’t know, I’m all over the place trying to defend this.

  10. Sasha Wins lol

Screams a promise to her to keep her ‘name value’ whatever that’s worth to a mainstream audience

  11. Dumb, people buy tickets to see NJPW, why does it seem more and more aew low and mid carders are being on these shows, this will never work, looks like NJPW of America is cooked, new Japan don’t need a women’s division especially if they’re gonna have a bunch of amateur American women on these shows, this is trash

  12. So the IWGP Women’s Championship is more of a Japan based title… meanwhile this one is a more US based title…

Yeah this makes little to no sense, why even have two belts? Why did you straight up to that title on a Stardom talent? Why does the IWGP women’s belt need to be in Japan?

None of this makes sense and the amount of titles NJPW has is starting to reach new heights of pure stupidity.

  13. Mercedes was brought in as the big global superstar to establish the IWGP. Bring attention/fans to Stardom/NJ. Top stardom talent (Iwatani, Guila) wont be travelling to u.s. regularly & they will want to save those matches against Mercedes for Japan anyway. So now you have the u.s. version, you put it on Mercedes, she will bring attention to it, & the u.s. shows overall. It will bring a wider range of challenges to her & she’ll be their biggest star. It keeps her affiliated with NJ, but still on the lite schedule she seems to want to keep so she can work on other projects.

  14. Why they making a strong women’s belt where there is no strong and we have the IWGP women’s belt? For FFS they need to get rid of belts not make more.

  15. I’m actually also suspicious of who stardom have sent. Maybe she’s a low card act that can speak English but so is waka who speaks better English.

I don’t know how many people follow stardom but momo kohgo got hit with the what a stinky loser letting the team down gimmick almost immediately as it seemed like Mercedes was interested in more dates.

To the point I was half expecting her to turn on iwatani at the big stardom show. She did get injured earlier in the night tho

  16. Unpopular Opinion: Womens Strong title makes sense bc itll essentially act as the womens version of IWGP US title.

While IWGP Womens Champion doesnt have hasstle of going overseas if they dont want to.
