Hi,
I’m a French freelancer language tutor (got my own society, working alone with no employee, all my clients are French) and would like to spend some time in Japan with a WH visa.
Since living in Japan is expensive, I would like to keep working part-time (~20 hrs a week) as a freelancer while visiting Japan.
Is it legally possible ? I find no reliable information on the internet, and even if I applied for the visa and got it approved by the consulate, I want to make sure I won’t get any trouble when I get there.
Thank you in advance !

On a working holiday there are no restrictions on the hours of work nor are there any issues with working remotely. Just keep in mind that as you’d be physically present in Japan while doing the work you would owe Japan taxes on that income. The income tax rate for non-residents is 20.42% and there is probably a tax treaty to prevent double taxation with your home country (but you’ll want to look into that).
